United Continental Holdings前身为UAL Corporation,2010年10月更为现名,连同其附属公司,在北美、亚太、欧洲、中东、非洲和拉丁美洲地区提供航空运输服务。联合大陆航空公司使用至少118个座位的喷射飞机经营主线业务,连同地区性业务,提供人员和货物运送服务。截至2016年12月31日,联合大陆航空公司共有1,231架飞机,另外也销售燃料,并提供维修、地勤以及餐饮服务给第三方。联合大陆航空(美国联合大陆控股有限公司)由之前全美第四大航空公司美联航(UAUA)和全球第六大航空公司美国大陆航空公司(CAL)合并而来。合并后 的联合大陆航空已超过达美航空,成为目前全球最大的航空公司;占美国国内市场份额比例将达到21%,占全球运力比例将达到7%。联合航空United Airlines(NYSE:UAUA)历史沿革: 联合航空是美国最早的商营航空公司,其身可追朔至1926年瓦特·瓦尼(Walter Varney)创立的瓦尼航空(Varney Air Lines)航空邮递服务。 1927年,航空先驱者威廉·爱德华·波音(William Edward Boeing)成立了他个人的航空公司–波音航空运输(Boeing Air Transport),并开始购买其他的空邮航空公司,包括Varney。 1929年,该公司改了名字为联合航机运输公司(United Aircraft-Transport Corp)。 1930年,联合航机运输公司聘请了一位名叫艾伦·丘奇的注册护士去帮助乘客,联合航空视丘奇为第一个航空公司的空中小姐(空姐的由来)。 1934年,空邮法案禁止航机制造和航空公司归同一公司,波音的公司分拆为三:零件制造商(联合技术公司的前身)、飞机制造商(波音)、和航空组织–联合航空(United)。 1961年6月1日,联合航空跟首都航空 (北美)合并,成为全世界的最大的航空公司。 1968年,公司重组成立UAL公司,而联合航空则为其全资附属机构。 1986年,原属泛美航空的波音747SP全数易手联合航空。 1991年,联合航空收购泛美航空飞往伦敦希斯路机场的航线。 1995年,联合航空成为第一间将波音777投入商业运营的航空公司。 1997年,联合航空与泰国国际航空、北欧航空、汉莎航空、加拿大航空联合组建星空联盟,同年将洛杉矶国际机场作为联航的枢纽。 2002年,由于无法继续注资以弥补亏损,联合航空申请破产保护。 2003年11月12日,联合航空开设低成本子公司泰德航空以与其他低成本航空公司竞争。 2005年9月,联合航空宣布重组计划,并在获得30亿美元融资后于2006年2月脱离破产保护。 2010年4月16日,联合航空重新与大陆航空讨论合并一事,幷于同年5月2日决定合并,保留联合航空的名称,但使用大陆航空的涂装。新组建的公司也改称 “联合大陆控股公司”(United Continental Holdings Inc.),总部则设在芝加哥。合并计划于2010年9月获批。美国大陆航空Continental Airlines(NYSE:CAL)历史沿革:大陆航空(Continental Airlines,原NYSE:CAL)曾是美国第五大、全球第六大的航空公司,1934年创立于休士顿,2012年并入联合航空。美国大陆航空以三个城市为枢纽,分别为休士顿的乔治布什洲际机场、纽瓦克的纽华克自由国际机场和克里夫兰的霍普金斯国际机场,航点遍布美洲、欧洲和亚洲。此外,其子公司密克罗尼西亚大陆航空以关岛的安东尼奥·汪帕特国际机场为基地,航点遍布密克罗尼西亚、东亚、东南亚,并连接夏威夷和澳洲。 1934年,大陆航空由Walter T. Varney创立(和联合航空为同一人),原名Varney Speed Lines; 1937年,Robert Six收购Varney Speed Lines并更名为大陆航空; 二战期间,大陆航空为美国军方改装B-17及B-29轰炸机; 1953年,大陆航空与Pioneer Airlines合并,取得在德克萨斯州及新墨西哥州16个城市的经营权; 1963年,大陆航空将总部迁往加州的洛杉矶; 1960年代,运送美军士兵往越南; 1960年代,大陆航空成立密克罗尼西亚航空(Air Micronesia),即现在的美国大陆密克罗尼西亚航空(Continental Micronesia); 1978年,美国国会通过“取消航空业国家管制法案”掀起了航空公司合并潮; 1982年,大陆航空被德州国际航空收购; 1983年,大陆航空根据美国联邦破产法第11章公司重整保护申请破产保护,清理债务后以廉价航空公司(low-cost carrier,LCC)方式继续经营; 1986年,成功脱离破产保护; 1987年,大陆航空收购People Express和其在纽华克的枢纽,使其成为全美第三大航空公司; 1991年,美国大陆航空再度申请破产保护; 1993年,加拿大航空联同Air Partners和Texas Pacific Group注资4.5亿美元协助大陆航空再度脱离破产保护; 1994年,大陆航空变成全部由波音飞机组成机队的航空公司; 1998年10月,接收其首架波音777飞机,并与西北航空、Copa、Avant Airlines、Transbrasil和Cape Air组成合作伙伴,与美国航空展开竞争; 2008年6月,在天合联盟的西北航空和达美航空宣布合并,而大陆航空又与联合航空合并谈判失败之后,大陆航空于2009年10月27日加入星空联盟,脱离天合联盟; 2010年5月3日,美国联合航空同意被美国大陆航空合并,成为美国最大航空公司; 2012年3月3日,大陆航空所有航班正式并入美国联合航空,大陆品牌正式成为历史。
